The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the church in Thessalonica after receiving a good report from Timothy, a young man in the faith, about the church. Paul had previously visited and established this church and was concerned for them because it was still an infant church. When Timothy came and reported of the good news about how well the believers were doing, this was a great encouragement to Paul that his work was not in vain. This church is a “model church” for us to draw encouragement from.

The Apostle Peter tells us in 2 Peter chapter 1, that there are great and precious promises for us from God. The reason for these promises are so we can partake in God’s divine nature and escape the world’s corruption which is through lust and human desire.

Every Christian knows they should share their faith but statistics show how few actually do. Most Christians could tell you “ten steps to abundant living” but few could tell you how to effectively win someone to Christ. Jesus tells believers in Matthew 28:19 to “Go ye…” You will have to go outside of the church, go beyond yourself and go where you may not be comfortable. However, be assured, as you go God goes with you (Acts 1:8).

The second half of 1 Peter, the Apostle encourages believers that were scattered through Pontus, Galatia, Capadocia, Asia and Bithynia to endure suffering for doing good works. He tells us that we are to arm ourselves with the same attitude that Christ had when He suffered in his body for the good news sake. Peter tells us that suffering is inevitable, so you might as well suffer for Christ which has purpose and incorruptible reward.

Sometimes in life we put people and objects in front of our fellowship with God. Jesus addresses these issues plain and simple. In Matthew’s gospel Jesus tells us plainly when we are not worthy of Him.

There are doctrinal and theological issues the bible instructs us in, but there is also the practical side of us doing the work. The knowledge we receive from God’s word has to be more than a library of resources we stock up on the inside. There has to be application.

At Christmas time we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. People put up nativity scenes and give gifts reflecting the love of God, but it is more than that. It is hard to look only at the birth of the Savior without also acknowledging who and what He came to save us from. This great act of God giving up deity to be wrapped in human flesh points to a much greater act of service toward the Father, the obedience of the cross even unto death.

The Bible does not teach for us to pray for the wisdom of Solomon but it does tells us that Christ is our wisdom. True wisdom only comes from God. The bible says we must ask in faith not doubting, and God will give us wisdom liberally and without reproach.

What is the purpose of the Christian being blessed by God? It is more than just our enjoyment and our satisfaction in things or even relationships, but our satisfaction in doing the will of God.

Why am I here? What is my purpose? What does God want me to do today? There is more to life than getting rich or die trying. There is more to the Christian walk than using our faith to get things that will perish, be corrupted or waste away. God’s purpose will not go without everlasting benefits.
